Giorgio Pietrangeli, son of the famous Italian tennis player Nicola Pietrangeli, died in Rome at the age of 59 after a long illness. The news was released by the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation (Fitp).

In the 1980s, Giorgio distinguished himself as one of the pioneers of Italian surfing , participating with the national team at the 1988 World Championships in Puerto Rico and the European Championships the following year in Portugal. Among his successes, also the participation in the 1985 European Championships in Forte dei Marmi and the victory at the Italian Championship in Viareggio in 1989.

He leaves his father Nicola, his wife Carola, his daughter Nicola and his brothers Marco and Filippo. In a note of condolence, the president of Fitp Angelo Binaghi and the entire tennis movement expressed their closeness to the family.
