Chievo Bankruptcy, Verona Prosecutor's Office Requests Luca Campedelli to Be Sent to Trial

The Public Prosecutor's Office of Verona has requested the referral to trial for fraudulent bankruptcy against Luca Campedelli , former president of Chievo Verona , currently in bankruptcy proceedings. The investigations, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza, have led to the discovery of "a fraudulent mechanism by means of which the administrator would have systematically represented an economic situation of apparent well-being for Chievo, such as to conceal the bankruptcy and erosion of the company's assets, as well as to allow the company to register for the football championship".
False capital gainsThe investigation also focuses on the fictitious transfers of footballers to Cesena and Carpi, carried out at prices that were "not in line" with their actual market value. The players, in reality, were sold without ever moving from one team to the other, thus allowing the registration of capital gains in Chievo's balance sheet for over 35 million euros. The capital gains mechanism also includes some intragroup transactions, in particular the transfer of the Chievo brand and the transfer of the business unit including the land of the Campo Sportivo Bottagisio. Other crimes contested by the Scaligeri prosecutors concern the diversion of over 200 thousand euros from Chievo Verona 's coffers by Campedelli for purposes other than business purposes, the "repeated systematic and significant" failure to fulfill tax and social security obligations from 2014 until the date of bankruptcy, for over 34 million euros.
