Growing numbers, three clubs in Regional 1, the women's team dividing the national D1... Futsal is on the rise in Cannes and Mandelieu

Growing numbers, three clubs in Regional 1, the women's team dividing the national D1... Futsal is on the rise in Cannes and Mandelieu

It's the youngest futsal club in Cannes, but not the least successful. Founded in 2022, Inter Cannes, chaired by Haïkel Rezgui, has just had a very successful season.

The Seniors District men's team was the departmental champion and will advance to the regional championship for the 2025-2026 season.

A superb performance for players who, for a long time, had to play away due to a lack of slots in one of Cannes' gymnasiums. Finally, they were able to train and play in the Ranguin gymnasium, before heading to Les Mûriers next season!

"We hope there will be a crowd to come and cheer on the boys and girls," says the president-manager.

Because, on the Senior women's side, coached by Anna-Raquel Vennetilli, the Cannes team won the AS Monaco tournament and will participate, next season, in the very first regional championship.

"We want to build a strong team to then reach the national D1. It's doable. We're recruiting through word of mouth and our project. As a reminder, our women's team won the regional futsal challenge in 2023-2024."

With its 58 licensed players, Inter Cannes is gaining momentum and intends to increase its numbers with young players, the essential base for a club.

"We have young players in the U14 and U15 divisions who are the next generation of boys. Both teams were able to participate in the first Côte d'Azur District futsal tournaments."

For the Mandelieu Futsal Academy, which already plays in Regional 1, the season was successful, with a 4th place in the championship for Ivan Rodriguez's Seniors.

Satisfaction from player-president Mehdi Bottero: "We've never been as close to the championship as we have this season. We could have even been in the running for the title without two or three poor performances this winter. Because we're finishing strong with eight wins in nine matches! Our coach-manager has taken us to the next level. The team has improved in every aspect, both technically and tactically."

With 150 members, the MFA could "accommodate double that number if we had the slots at the Olympia hall." The club welcomes children from the age of 6, in order to help them progress and perhaps one day join the first team.

The Côte d'Azur Cup for ACA Cannes

Third team in R1: ACA Cannes, which plays at the Ranguin gymnasium. The team, managed by Ala-Eddine Trifi (also a player), had an average season in the league (mid-table), enhanced by a victory in the Côte d'Azur Cup.

"We've had our ups and downs. We started off well, before hitting a low and alternating between good and bad ," the team manager emphasizes. "Next season, we'll want to reach as high as possible. There are three local teams: these derbies will spice up the championship, especially since we know each other well. And it's better for traveling!"
