A star signing for Lille during the off-season, Olivier Giroud has made his comeback to the French league after a spell in the United States.

In an interview broadcast on Canal Football Club, the Isère striker revealed the details of his transfer, including an approach from recently promoted FC Lorient, via his sporting director, Laurent Koscielny, one of his friends. "I was honest with him, telling him that the adventure with Los Angeles FC would probably end this summer. There was no point in me staying for the pleasure I was getting. So he jumped into the breach," he assured.

The men played together at Tours in Ligue 2 during the 2008-2009 season, at Arsenal between 2012 and January 2018 but also in the French national team until 2018. "My Lolo, we are close," he admitted. He told me: "I have a little project at Lorient, I'll put two guys on the wings who will delight you, young people around you." When I had Lille, I told him "my chick, these are two different projects. You are promoted and will be playing to stay up, and Lille is playing in Europe and at the top of the table." He understood and said to me: "What do you want me to fight for with Lille?"

A great anecdote for the top scorer in the history of Les Bleus (57 goals), who started the season strongly with the northern club by scoring in his first two matches. Having injured his adductors on the last matchday, Giroud could return to the field soon.
