Fatal Bogey on 18: Victor Perez Misses the Cut at the John Deere Classic

Fatal Bogey on 18: Victor Perez Misses the Cut at the John Deere Classic

Since the PGA Championship, where he stopped after 36 holes (May 16), Victor Perez had made four consecutive cuts on the American tour. This Friday, this series came to an end in Illinois. Entering this John Deere Classic with a card of 68, the Frenchman nevertheless started his second round well, collecting a birdie on the par 5 2nd. Despite a bogey conceded in the process, the Tarbais confirmed his good start thanks to two other birdies validated by two nice putts (nearly four meters on the 4th, six meters on the 5th).

Then, the Séméac native showed solid form but was unable to find the answer for eleven holes (three putts and a bogey on the 13th, ten pars). However, the 32-year-old golfer then managed to sink an important birdie on the 17th... before stalling on the gong. Indeed, Perez sent his last tee shot into a bunker and had to try twice to get out of the sand. Punishing a final bogey and author of a timid 70, the three-time winner on the DP World Tour oscillated between the two sides of the cut line until the end (first 65 and tied). He finally finished in a frustrating 66th place (-4 total), one stroke off the right track.

Leading the way on Thursday night, Doug Ghim posted a solid score of 68 (one eagle, three birdies, two bogeys), to retain the lead (-12): " I played pretty well all day. It's just the halfway point. There are so many good players. I think you have to stay patient. I'm still chasing my opponents because the victory should be decided around -20. "

The American will start the moving day with a small lead over five competitors who are close behind him at -11. This group is composed of Brian Campbell, David Lipsky, Emiliano Grillo, Max Homa and Davis Thompson. The defending champion pounded the table during this second round and recorded a score of 63 (eight birdies), the best of the day. Six players follow in 7th place (-10): Camilo Villegas, Taylor Montgomery, Sam Stevens, Si Woo Kim, Cameron Champ and Kevin Roy. Fresh from his first PGA Tour title , Aldrich Potgieter posted a round of 66 (eight birdies, two bogeys). The South African is 13th (-9).
