AS Monaco loses to Lille in stoppage time with a goal from Olivier Giroud (1-0)

Very quickly, the first clash of the season lived up to its name in terms of pace and intensity. Akliouche was the first to create a big chance, but his right-footed shot was too flat to beat Ozer (9'). After a second scare in the LOSC defense by Balogun (14'), a surprise starter in place of Biereth, Lille reacted, but Meunier and especially Haraldsson (19, 21') missed the target, the latter being alone against Hradecky.

Giroud misses penalty to make it 2-0

ASM was often able to take advantage of the Northerners' errors in the middle. But this time, Akliouche didn't even hit the target (39') and the two teams went back to the locker room with their backs to each other. In the second half, Monaco had a much harder time creating any danger, while Lille tightened their grip, as evidenced by a chance from Giroud, who threw himself alone at the penalty spot without hitting the target either (73').
