AS Monaco Basket: Daniel Theis stays on the Rock

The 2025-26 Roca Team is taking shape. ASM Basket is slowly assembling the pieces of a tantalizing puzzle.
Following the signing of Paris Basket pivot Kevarrius Hayes, and before the (seemingly imminent) signing of Milanese star Nikola Mirotic, the club from the Rock has announced that German international pivot Daniel Theis is signing up for another season.
Good news for Monaco, which lost Jaiteh (Dubai) and Papagiannis. Theis was unable to play in the Betclic Elite finals (3-2 defeat to Paris) due to a knee injury.
But ASM Basket was able to note the recovery of the former NBA finalist (Boston Celtics), a key element in Vassilis Spanoulis's system.
"Daniel was still under contract with us for next season," said General Manager Olesksiy Yefimov. "He had an NBA exit clause, but it has expired, so the deal is guaranteed for the Roca Team. We're counting on him a lot. Daniel feels very comfortable in Monaco. He's one of our best players and fits perfectly with the style of play advocated by coach Spanoulis."
Budget on the riseFaced with a Euroleague that has grown to 20 clubs, with the addition of two economic powerhouses (Dubai and Hapoel Tel Aviv), ASM Basket had taken the lead. "We anticipated an increasingly competitive market by securing our key players during last season," emphasized Monaco president Aleksej Fedoricsev.
Extensions that concerned Matthew Strazel (until 2029) and Alpha Diallo (2028). Elie Okobo (2026), Jaron Blossomgame (2026), Jordan Loyd (2026) and Mike James (2027) extended their contracts last year.
"These extensions show that our guys truly feel connected to the Roca Team. And that means a lot to me," notes the president of ASM Basket, a club from the Rock that has announced a 10% increase in its budget for the upcoming season.
From 29.4 million in 2024/25, this figure will therefore pass the 30 million mark... In other words, in the upper average of the Euroleague.
"Our goal is to grow while maintaining our identity, not to outstrip others' budgets," says Aleksej Fedoricsev. ASM Basket is making the creation of a new arena a priority for the club's development.
"A complex that would be much more than just a venue, but a jewel on the map, with basketball as its best ambassador," says Aleksej Fedoricsev. " A place for our fans, a magnet for partners, a clear symbol of our ambition," he notes, without revealing the progress of the project.
"Great things to come"The "president" clarifies: the Monaco transfer window is not closed.
"Great things are coming," he promises, on the contrary. " We failed at the last step last season (Euroleague finalist, championship finalist). It was very painful, but it just gives us one desire: to come back even stronger."
"Arriving at the Final Four in Abu Dhabi, I was struck by the hotel's pediment, adorned with the clubs' pennants. Olympiakos, a century-old club; Panathinaikos, founded in 1922; Fenerbahce, 118 years of history... We reached the pinnacle in record time.
But what we really want is to build something deep, something anchored," concludes Mr. Fedoricsev.
