Carlos Ruiz, one of the Spanish wrestlers with experience in WWE, has come to the defense of John Cena during his interview on The Wild Project, the podcast hosted by Jordi Wild. He explained that the American changed the way we understand the "face," that traditionally well-received character. "Kids loved him, adults hated him, and he took advantage of that," recalled Ruiz, who admitted to having bought into that narrative even while still in the business.
For Ruiz, Cena broke the mold, just like Stone Cold Steve Austin did in his time. “Getting to that point where you can command the crowd without needing to fit into a clear role is the ultimate,” he asserted. Although he's often accused of having a limited style, the Spaniard maintains that his impact isn't measured solely by his moves. “ He knew what he was doing and why he was doing it in every match ,” he emphasized. That stage awareness, for him, is one of the keys to his success.
Ruiz made his position on the criticism of Cena clear: "No one who has ever stepped into the ring can say that John Cena is a bad wrestler." He argued that he is a professional who is easy to work with and who always guarantees a solid show . He also highlighted his ability to provoke reactions from the crowd, something not everyone can achieve. " It's no coincidence that people respond; Cena controls it ," he stated during the interview with Jordi Wild.
One example he cited was the match between John Cena and Roman Reigns , at a time when both were being questioned by the fans. Ruiz commented that he studied that fight in depth , fascinated by how they transformed the boos into applause. “ Using the crowd against you and turning it around is something very few can do ,” he reflected. For him, this shows that Cena is not only effective in the ring, but also a master of storytelling within professional wrestling.
