MEXICO CITY (apro).— Tropical storm Dalila will continue to generate intense rains, high waves, and strong gusts of wind this Sunday, June 15, in the western and southern states of the country, reported the National Meteorological Service (SMN), dependent on the National Water Commission (Conagua).

According to the 12:00 noon report on Saturday, Dalila was located 280 kilometers south-southwest of Manzanillo, Colima, and 330 kilometers south of Playa Pérula, Jalisco. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 100 kilometers per hour, gusts of up to 120 km/h, and moving northwest at 16 km/h.

Forecast of rain and strong winds

For this Sunday, the system will bring intense rainfall, between 75 and 150 millimeters, to Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero. Very heavy rainfall, between 50 and 75 millimeters, is also forecast in Nayarit.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) warned that these precipitations could cause landslides , rising river and stream levels, and flooding in low-lying areas. In addition, sustained winds of 50 to 60 km/h and gusts of 80 to 100 km/h are expected in coastal areas of the aforementioned states.

High waves and waterspouts

Dalila will generate high waves along Mexico's Pacific coast. Authorities forecast heights of 4.5 to 5.5 meters along the coasts of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, and Guerrero. There is also a possibility of waterspouts forming in these regions.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) maintains the tropical storm prevention zone active from Tecpan de Galeana, Guerrero, to Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco.

Call to follow recommendations

The forecast covers the period from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, to 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 15. Authorities urged the public, including those engaged in maritime activities, to exercise extreme caution due to rain, wind, and waves.
