Mirandés, Oviedo, and one last ticket to the First Division, making history.

Mirandés, Oviedo, and one last ticket to the First Division, making history.

There's not much time left to find out which team will close out the list of clubs that will compete in LaLiga next season. Very little. This Sunday, CD Mirandés and Real Oviedo play the first match of the promotion playoff . Both will fight to make history by securing the last spot in the top flight of Spanish football.

The Burgos team, exultant after thrashing Real Racing Club, and the Asturian team, who more fairly beat Almería, will join Levante UD and Elche CF in the First Division.

In Miranda de Ebro, where the first leg will be played, they will have to lay the first stone. Both teams were on the verge of direct promotion, tied on 75 points , two adrift of the second place that the Elche team ultimately claimed (77).

Furthermore, in the event of a draw after the two matches and extra time, the Oviedo team would go up without having to resort to penalties thanks to their improved position in the regular season , in which they finished third, compared to the fourth position of the "jabatos".

However, Mirandés, who have never played in the First Division , arrive at the match euphoric after overcoming the thorn of the last two LaLiga Hypermotion matchdays in the 'Playoff' semi-finals, in which they saw Elche snatch the coveted second direct promotion spot.

Already in the midst of promotion, they squandered a solid first-leg lead in Santander, where they were winning 3-1, after Racing equalized in stoppage time (3-3) . Just four days later, with the support of their fans, Alessio Lisci's team defeated the Cantabrian side (4-1) and booked their place in the final.

For their part, Oviedo won their first match against Almería in Andalusia thanks to a 93rd-minute goal from Nacho Vidal (1-2) , and at the Carlos Tartiere, with a goal from the tireless Santi Cazorla, they took advantage of a 1-1 draw to continue fighting for promotion. Now, the Carbayón team will try to return to the top flight of Spanish football for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

On the two occasions they have faced each other this season, Veljko Paunovic's team won the home game in the first leg (4-1), while the 'jabatos' made up for it in the match played in March (1-0).
