The trial against the rector of Chapingo University will be held on July 17.

MEXICO CITY (apro) - The trial against the rector of the Autonomous University of Chapingo (UACH), Ángel Garduño, for rape against a student at the institution, will begin on July 17.
Meanwhile, the victim, Nelly Concepción Soto Mijangos, is seeking to have authorities enforce the order to keep him in pretrial detention, which the rector has avoided thanks to a suspension.
Garduño was linked to proceedings on April 20, 2024, and was given a justified preventive detention measure. However, he filed an amparo lawsuit against the precautionary measure, registered under number 664/2024.
In this trial, the measure has already been ratified by both a District Judge and a Collegiate Court, meaning it is now a final decision.
Before that trial, he filed another lawsuit against the arrest warrant, which was registered under number 165/2024. He was granted a permanent suspension, but it has since been revoked because, by the time he was brought to trial, the action in question had ceased to exist.
However, that suspension is still in effect because the rector filed an appeal, thereby preventing the authorities from executing the order to place him in pretrial detention.
Therefore, Nelly Concepción Soto Mijangos will request a hearing to enforce the precautionary measure.
At the same time, he asked the Fifth District Judge in the State of Mexico to repeal the definitive suspension because the contested act that gave rise to amparo lawsuit 165/2024 no longer exists.
