Liverpool's applauded gesture to Diogo Jota's family: they will pay the remaining two years of his contract.

Liverpool is experiencing one of its most devastating moments with the death of Diogo Jota. The 28-year-old footballer died along with his brother, André Silva, in a fatal traffic accident in Zamora early Thursday morning. Since then, the British club has fully supported the player's family.

To ensure that a large part of the squad could attend Diogo Jota's funeral, Liverpool chartered a flight to Portugal , where they were given a heartfelt farewell at the Matriz church in Gondomar, the hometown of the two deceased.

Furthermore, the Portuguese newspaper Record claims that the Reds want to have another detail with the footballer's family and will pay them the two years of Diogo Jota's contract that remained , after he was due to play for Liverpool until 2027.

According to estimates from Capology , a website specializing in club salaries and finances, the Portuguese footballer's base salary would be close to £7,280,000 per year , an amount that the family will now receive.

The club also announced its desire to retire the number 20 shirt, which Diogo Jota wore at Liverpool , a request also made by Reds fans.
