Camila Osorio wins her first match of the GDL Open 2025

Camila Osorio wins her first match of the GDL Open 2025

Camila Osorio delivered in her debut at the GDL Open AKRON 2025 WTA 500, defeating Russian Kamilla Rakhimova 7-5 in two hard-fought sets. The Colombian made good on her title as the favorite to advance to the next round of the Guadalajara tournament.

It took nearly two hours for Osorio to eliminate an opponent who remained defiant throughout . Although Camila was slightly superior for most of the match, Rakhimova fought until the very end.

Kamilla started by breaking Osorio's serve, but in the second game, the South American returned the attack. Without allowing either of them to gain a significant lead, they were tied at 5-5. However, in the final stretch of the set, Camila won the last two games in a row .

By the second set, Osorio had a 2-0 lead, but she let it slip away, as Kamilla refused to give up easily and, coming from behind, was able to momentarily turn it around to 4-5 . However, her attempts to reverse her shaky start were insufficient against a patient Camila who managed to win the last three games of the match.

Throughout, the Colombian was cheered on by the fans in the stands . Constant chants of "Go, Camila!" could be heard, and every attack from the South American was met with loud applause that made her feel right at home.

Osorio served powerfully, which was a factor in his first win on Jalisco soil, as he served four aces and won 63% of points on his first serve.

In the second round, Camila will face American Iva Jovic , who had to beat Polish Katarzyna Kawa to stay alive.
