Armando González, grateful for his first call-up to the Mexican National Team

After being crowned top scorer of the 2025 Apertura Tournament, Chivas striker Armando González expressed his gratitude to Javier Aguirre and Rafael Márquez for his recent call-up to the Mexican National Team.

The “Ant” confessed that she always believed she could achieve this , although she admitted that she did not expect it to happen so soon.

“I always knew I could do these things, but you don't expect them to happen so fast. I'm happy about this call-up and grateful to Javier and Rafa for giving me the opportunity to play for the National Team. I'm very happy it happened. Even if it hadn't, I would still have been very happy with the tournament, but there's still a long way to go. We want to finish it with a championship, and I'm very happy because it's not very common for a Mexican to be the top scorer,” he said.

González also highlighted Javier Hernández 's influence on his performance and emphasized the importance of experiencing the day-to-day life within the Guadalajara locker room, beyond the negative comments circulating about "Chicharito".

“Javier, from the moment there was a possibility that I would become the top scorer, told me not to worry, that it was going to happen. And if it didn't, it didn't matter, because I had already done important things in the tournament and I should feel proud. He told me to let everything flow and to enjoy it, and that's what happened, because these are very important moments.”

"Everything that's said about Javier and Chivas is untrue. I see it every day, and what he wants most is for the whole team to grow and for Chivas to become champions."

Finally, the striker expressed his pride in winning the scoring title and stressed that this achievement is just one more step in his career , motivating him to continue working to reach new goals.

“It’s a source of pride and the fruit of my daily work. I know many more great things are coming, but for that to happen, I must continue working at 100 percent every day. This is an important moment in my career, but I know great things are ahead, and for that, I must continue working and improving,” he concluded.
