A 15-year-old skater dies after being hit by a cement truck.

Matilda Ferrari, a promising 15-year-old figure skater, died on Monday after being hit by a cement truck just outside her home in Giustino, a village in the Rendena Valley, Trentino, northern Italy .

According to authorities, the teenager was crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing to get to her school bus stop. Suddenly, a cement truck passing through the green light didn't have time to brake and hit Matilda.

Nothing could be done for the girl, despite the timely intervention of two doctors living in the village and the emergency rescue team that arrived by helicopter.

The investigation being carried out by the Carabineros will determine the exact circumstances of the accident.

Matilda, whose sporting dream was to participate in the Winter Olympics , belonged to the Sporting Ghiaccio Artistico Pinzolo club, which published an emotional farewell letter on its Facebook account:

"It's impossible to find the words to describe what happened, what we're all feeling right now. To all of us, you were a teammate, a friend with whom we shared training, dreams, laughter, and beautiful moments on the ice every day.

You were an incredible skater , with so much passion and incredible determination, you had big dreams and ambitions, for which you trained every day with hard work and tenacity and you never lost your smile and the desire to always improve.

You've never given up in the face of injury or difficulty. Last season, after a long period of inactivity due to a knee problem, you managed to achieve a magnificent third place in the Italian Gold Cup final, demonstrating to everyone your willpower and your passion for skating.

Last year, you were also part of Team Ice Secret, our new synchronized dance team, with whom you shared the joys and emotions of our first performances and training sessions.

A sweet, cheerful, and determined girl, a role model and a point of reference even for the youngest athletes, especially for your little sister Greta, who has always admired and supported you.

We can't imagine what it will be like without you now, without seeing you with us every day on the ice and in the locker room.

We will always skate for you too, remembering you every day for your passion, energy, and dedication to this beautiful sport.

Goodbye Mati, we love you. We'll miss you so much.
