The 2025 European Basketball Championship began on August 27. Germany entered the preliminary round in Tampere, Finland, as the reigning world champions and delivered a perfect performance, winning five of their five matches. 24 teams are participating in the European Basketball Championship, divided into four preliminary groups of six nations each. Each group plays according to a round-robin format. A team receives two points for each win and one point for each loss. This usually keeps the standings exciting until the very end. The top four teams in each group qualify for the round of 16, from which the teams play in a knockout format until the final in Riga.

The 42nd European Men's Basketball Championship will be held from August 27 to September 14, 2025. As in 2022, the tournament will take place in four countries: Latvia (Riga), Finland (Tampere), Cyprus (Limassol), and Poland (Katowice).
While the preliminary rounds in Tampere, Limassol, and Katowice conclude, the final round continues in Riga. The final will take place in the 14,500-seat Arena Riga.
