Wales wing Adams signs new Cardiff deal

Wales wing Adams signs new Cardiff deal

Wales wing Josh Adams has signed a new deal to stay with Cardiff.

Adams, 29, was set to be out of contract in the summer.

It is the first signing Cardiff have announced since they were placed in temporary administration last week and subsequently taken over by the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU).

Following the takeover, the WRU insisted all contracts at Cardiff would be honoured.

However, in some cases, players will be free to move on if they wish - with their deals then deemed null and void - because the region slipped into administration.

Adams has chosen to sign and follows fellow internationals Ben Thomas, Mason Grady and Cameron Winnett in agreeing new terms at the club.

"I have a young family and we are all very settled here in Wales, and are enjoying being at home," said Adams.

"In terms of the club we have made some good improvements from last season and you can see us getting better and developing.

"I really enjoy the environment here and I'm happy at the club. The Arms Park is the best ground in Wales and especially so when it is sold out. You simply cannot beat it."

British and Irish Lions wing Adams joined Cardiff before the 2019-20 season having established himself as one of the most potent wings in the northern hemisphere.

He quickly established himself as a prolific try-scorer and key leader within the squad, scoring 31 tries in his 49 appearances to date.

"We are pleased to keep Josh as we continue to build as a club," said Cardiff head coach Matt Sherratt.

"He is a really important figure within our environment. He's very influential off the pitch and on it is the type of player you want next to you.

"His strike rate shows what a deadly finisher he is, and he has excellent attitude towards the basics of the game. Josh and his family are very settled here, he remains highly motivated and I have no doubt he will continue to be an influential player at the Arms Park."
