The quarter-finals of the US Open are in full swing with Novak Djokovic already through to the last four. He beat Taylor Fritz in four sets overnight to set up a blockbuster semi-final showdown with Carlos Alcaraz. The match was not without controversy, though, with Djokovic facing a hostile crowd and furiously confronting the umpire over the noise.

Felix Auger-Aliassime will face Alex de Minaur later today, with the winner of that match going up against Jannik Sinner or Lorenzo Musetti. On the women's side, Aryna Sabalenka is safely through after Marketa Vondrousova withdrew from their quarter-final meeting before it began. She picked up a knee injury and chose to concede the match following her warm-up on the practice courts.

Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni has urged bosses to clamp down on players who smash their rackets and throw tantrums on the court.

He believes 'sporting punishments' should be imposed, pointing out how this behaviour takes place more frequently in tennis than other sports.

Writing for El Pais, Nadal added: "This is the world we’ve entered, beyond tennis, one of the proliferation and applause of the most deplorable behaviours, of outbursts and poor manners.

"And there isn’t, for everything, the possibility of imposing a sporting punishment. A real shame."

Novak Djokovic was involved in a controversial moment during his quarter-final victory over Taylor Fritz.

He looked frustrated as the audience cheered his double-fault in the third set, prompting a furious reaction.

Djokovic confronted the umpire, asking him why he was not taking measures to shut the crowd up.

He shouted: "What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? Just 'thank you, please'."

The umpire responded: "I just said when both players are ready, stop shouting. I just said it. It's not going to help, Novak."
