Ryder Cup LIVE: Viktor Hovland left 'devastated' as Europe close in on historic victory

Ben Griffin is getting the better of Rasmus Hojgaard through three holes after a second birdie in this battle between the two rookies.
Tyrell Hatton begins with a birdie against Collin Morikawa in the penultimate match underway. Sam Burns and Bob MacIntryne are the final pair on the first hole.
Another bogey from Bryson DeChambeau means Matt Fitzpatrick increases his advantage over the American through seven.
Justin Thomas eagled the sixth in match two to halve Tommy Fleetwood's lead, but he is back 2Up after Thomas bogeyed the seventh.
Russell Henley has taken the second against Shane Lowry after bouncing back from a bogey on the opening hole with a birdie on the second to tie their match up again. Sepp Straka, meanwhile, has won the par-3 third against J.J. Spaun with a second birdie so far.

Matt Fitzpatrick is 4Up through six holes after back-to-back birdies. Bryson DeChambeau practising late into the night yesterday is not paying off at all for the American.
Cam Young has taken the sixth and seventh against Justin Rose to double the amount of red on the board. Xander Schauffele is the only other American leading, 2Up on Jon Rahm.
Europe are now up in five of the eight matches that are underway this afternoon. Shane Lowry is the latest European to put blue on the board.
Matt Fitzpatrick has now won the first, third and fifth against Bryson DeChambeau, with birdies on the former and latter.
Sepp Straka is off to the perfect start against J.J. Spaun after winning the opening hole with a birdie.
Xander Schauffele remains the only red on the board but is now 2Up on Jon Rahm through two.
Scottie Scheffler has won the fourth to tie up match four with Rory McIlroy. Cameron Young has also pegged Justin Rose back on the sixth, and they are also tied.
In many ways, this is a free hit for the USA. They are not expected to win and can just go out there and play their game.
But so far the evidence is clear. The European side is simply better equipped to deal with a golf course that was being billed before the tournament as one of the hardest in all of America.
Still early days, but this could get seriously embarrassing for Keegan Bradley and America. We could all be in bed (or on the champagne) by 9pm here.

Rory McIlroy birdies the second as Scottie Scheffler does not. Europe are now up in three and tied in two.

The world No. 1 and 2 both par the first hole and remain tied.

Yeah, he started stiffening up yesterday morning, and tried to go out in the afternoon. Got worse and worse. Went to get an MRI last night, was just really very stiff this morning. He tried to get through his warm-up, but just couldn't play. So he's devastated, he's gutted. He wanted to go out there and represent Team Europe. It's very, very unfortunate.

Team Europe now need just two-and-a-half points from the singles to win this year's Ryder Cup, and only two will be enough to retain their title. Justin Rose is out first for them up against Cameron Young.
The Ryder Cup have released the following statement:
Viktor Hovland from Team Europe is unable to play in the Sunday Singles Matches due to injury. The substitution Rule 3.d) of the Ryder Cup Captains' Agreement requires each Team Captain to provide the name of one player, in the sealed envelope, who will not play in the case of an injury to a member of the other team.
The USA Team player is Harris English and under the Ryder Cup Captains' Agreement the Match between Viktor Hovland and Harris English is treated as tied (1½ point to each team). The overall Match score now stands as: USA 5 Europe 12
