Morris stars as Kingscourt advance

A Jordan Morris masterclass helped Kingscourt Stars through to the business end of the Cavan SFC.
Making his first club appearance since last summer, Meath ace Morris was simply unplayable and fired over eight points – six from play - as the town side roared to a brilliant 2-22 to 1-15 victory over Ballinagh at Breffni Park on Friday night.
Continuing to produce the scintillating form delivered for the Royal County in their run to an All-Ireland semi-final earlier this year, Morris had the Ballinagh defence in knots every time he gathered possession and as well as his eight points also assisted numerous scores, including Kevin Curtis’ palmed goal which left it 1-9 to 0-5 at the break.
At the other end, Thomas Smith was the main man for the losers, helping himself to 0-9, including three brilliant two-pointers.
Paddy O’Brien netted for Ballinagh as they closed the gap to four points going into the fourth quarter but a Peter Corrigan two-pointer and Paddy Meade’s goal – again set up by Morris – got the Stars back on track. A third successive championship win means Kingscourt have cruised through to the quarter-finals.
