McGinley Loved Jim McGuinness' Donegal Mind Games After Subtle Kerry Comment

McGinley Loved Jim McGuinness' Donegal Mind Games After Subtle Kerry Comment

With both teams having produced emphatic victories in their respective semi-finals, it's fair to say that the upcoming All-Ireland decider between Donegal and Kerry looks like a flip of a coin.

The two sides look incredibly well matched. They both possess immense quality within their ranks, even if they do approach the game in different ways.

Kerry's long kicking style has resulted in plenty of success in recent weeks, while Donegal's hard running approach has proven incredibly effective throughout this year's championship.

Speaking after yesterday's win over Meath, Donegal boss Jim McGuinness summed up the challenge that would face his team on July 27th.

We were able to make those changes today the whole way through the game and going in to play Kerry in an All-Ireland final, you're going to need every man that you've got.

That's a huge challenge and they (Kerry) are so confident about what they do and there's a rite of passage there almost, in terms of winning All-Irelands, so that's the first thing we're going to have to meet head on.

But certainly it'll not be 15 players, it'll be every single player that can get onto the pitch that will be needed.

Those comments have now drawn an interesting response.

McGinley Loved McGuinness' Donegal Mind Games After Subtle Kerry Comment

Jim McGuinness is someone who not afraid to employ mind games ahead of big fixtures, a tactic he uses to motivate his own players as well as get in the head of the opposition.

Speaking on the RTÉ GAA Podcast, Tyrone legend Enda McGinley said that the Donegal manager's comments after yesterday's game were a perfect example of that dynamic in action.

McGuinness was at it again, he's never not at it!

In the press conference yesterday after the game, he had a wee line that 'it's as if it's a right in Kerry to go and win an All-Ireland'.

I just thought 'there's your hook', that's the hook that he's in. I think it was a 'rite of passage term' he had, that it was Kerry and they believe they can just turn up and win.

Kerry beat Donegal 2014. A good grudge match is hard to beat, it brings out the best in all of us. The wee lines are being drawn in the sand there and you can imagine the narratives within both teams.

Both teams are going to come out in pretty grumpy form to put the other two the sword. Hopefully we all benefit from it.

Kerry will be well aware of McGuinness' habits when it comes to mind games, with their own manager Jack O'Connor very familiar with such approaches himself.

With almost two weeks of buildup ahead of the final, it should add to what is already looking like a potential all-time classic between two top class teams.
