Man Utd player ratings vs Ipswich: Bruno Fernandes saves 3/10 duo in lucky win

Another Bruno Fernandes set-piece masterclass hauled 10-man Manchester United to a spirited 3-2 victory over Premier League strugglers Ipswich. The Red Devils captain was key to another comeback and featured prominently in all three goals.
Andre Onana's moment of madness saw him suffer a terrible mix-up with Patrick Dorgu and gift Jaden Philogene-Bidace a fourth-minute goal. United fought back, though, and Fernandes' excellent delivery forced a Sam Morsy own goal before the Portuguese midfielder's corner was eventually thrashed home by Matthijs de Ligt.
A red card shown to Patrick Dorgu on the stroke of half-time threatened to derail United and Ruben Amorim's evening got worse when Philogene-Bidace's cross bounced all the way into the net only moments later.
But Harry Maguire powered home from Fernandes' corner early in the second half to seal an important three points for the hosts.
Despite some positive displays, there were a couple of horror shows at Old Trafford. Amorim must iron out the inconsistencies and errors.

Andre Onana - 3/10
A new goalkeeper must be high on United’s agenda for the summer. Erik ten Hag’s disastrous decision to bin off the ever-reliable David De Gea for Onana is underrated among the Dutchman’s other poor recruitment choices.
Onana seems to be at fault for a goal every few games. He should not have stormed out of his goal and narrowed down the angle before Dorgu’s erroneous back pass. The Cameroon shot-stopper also failed to take control of the situation as Philogene-Bidace’s cross evaded everyone.
Matthijs de Ligt - 7
De Ligt does not get enough praise as United’s best defender - although the bar is hardly high. The Dutchman showed excellent instinct and aggression to put United 2-1 ahead. He had some positive defensive moments, too.
Harry Maguire - 7
This was a much better defensive performance from United and it was only a wild error and a fortunate second which saw Ipswich score. Maguire dealt with Liam Delap well and scored United’s third.
Leny Yoro - 6
Yoro has settled in well at United and enjoyed a few good moments, particularly in possession. The Frenchman will be a great asset for years to come.
Diogo Dalot - 6
Dalot started at right-wing-back and dealt with much of Ipswich’s threat down his side. The Portugal international switched to the left after Noussair Mazraoui’s introduction, prompted by the sending-off of Dorgu.
Bruno Fernandes - 8
Where would United be without Fernandes? Every time they go behind, their captain is the man hauling them back. It was his brilliant free-kick which Morsy converted and a pair of his corners led to United’s second and third goals. Even in a deeper role, Fernandes is having a huge say on his side’s results.
Manuel Ugarte - 6
Ugarte is an excellent midfield partner for Fernandes. The Uruguayan is a top destructor and is astute in possession. He is one of few current United stars who will be around to see better days at Old Trafford.
Patrick Dorgu - 3
Onana was more at fault for Ipswich’s first goal but Dorgu cannot be entirely absolved of blame. He did not seem to look up to check Onana’s position, nor did he seemingly communicate with his goalkeeper at any point before nudging the ball backwards. He is likely coached to always pass back in that situation - but he could have taken control and cleared the ball out of play.
A red card for a poor tackle on Omari Hutchinson before half-time marked a dreadful full Old Trafford debut for the January signing.
Joshua Zirkzee - 6
There are question marks over where Zirkzee fits into this 3-4-2-1 system in the long term but this was a tidy performance from the ever-improving Dutchman.
Rasmus Hojlund - 4
Hojlund does not have enough creativity around but he also needs to do so much more to get himself involved in games. He touched the ball only 12 times before being taken off in the 66th minute and was entirely anonymous for large periods of the contest.
Alejandro Garnacho - 5
Garnacho was the unlucky forward sacrificed after Dorgu’s red card but he had not done enough to justify staying on the pitch.
Substitutes
Noussair Mazraoui (for Garnacho '44) - 6
Mazraoui was brought on to restore United's defence to a back five after Dorgu's red card. The Moroccan had very little to do but was booked for a shove on Liam Delap.
Casemiro (for Hojlund '67)- 5
Brazilian veteran Casemiro was a little loose with his passing after replacing Hojlund as Amorim looked to shore up his midfield.
Christian Eriksen (for Zirkzee '92) - N/A
Eriksen had little time to make an impact as United made a double change two minutes into added time.
Victor Lindelof (for Yoro '92) - N/A
Same as Eriksen.
