Man United 3-2 Ipswich - PLAYER RATINGS: Who is a LIABILITY for the Red Devils? And whose confidence has been broken into a million pieces?

Published: | Updated:
Manchester United nabbed a nervous victory over relegation-threatened Ipswich Town at home on Wednesday evening, despite playing a full second-half with 10 men.
The hosts got the match off to the worst possible start as they fell behind within minutes to a goal from Jaden Philogene, but a wobbly Sam Morsy own goal at the end of the pitch helped level the score just shy of 20 minutes later.
Matthijs de Ligt then helped the Red Devils pull ahead, and Ruben Amorim's side were close to going into the half-time break the more contented of the two sides, only for January recruit Patrick Dorgu to be handed a straight red card for his challenge on Omari Hutchinson after a lengthy VAR check.
Buoyed up by the advantage, Ipswich were in full flow with Philogene netting a second in injury time, but Harry Maguire once again proved his side's saviour with the second-half winner to hand the home team all three points.
But who shone and who sputtered at Old Trafford?
Here, Mail Sport's NATHAN SALT evaluates the standouts among the home ranks, below.

Manchester United claimed the nervy win on home turf 3-2 in their back-and-forth battle with visiting Ipswich

Jaden Philogene netted twice for Ipswich in a strong display for the former Aston Villa starlet

But Patrick Dorgu's challenge on Omari Hutchinson saw the defender handed a straight red
Made a ridiculous decision to come rushing out for Ipswich’s first goal and then managed to top that with an even more egregious error to allow a cross to go past everyone - including him - for Ipswich’s equaliser at 2-2. Liability.
Matthjis de Ligt 6
Reacted quicker than anybody else to fire in a loose ball after Diogo Dalot’s effort was parried in the six-yard box by Ipswich goalkeeper Alex Palmer. Showed awkward positioning when marking Liam Delap for Ipswich’s second goal, an issue that has plagued him in a handful of games.
Harry Maguire 6.5
Had a few nervy moments in the first half as he got to grips with the speed and movement of young whippersnapper Delap. But he also made some crucial blocks and interceptions and it was his bullet header that gave them the lead up 3-2 with 10 men.

Matthijs de Ligt added to his goal tally to help United claw themselves back into the match

Ex-captain Harry Maguire again helped Man United out of danger with his second-half goal
Leny Yoro 6
Showed flashes of why United were so keen to get him ahead of a host of suitors across Europe but remains very much a work in progress. Looked more assured in the second half with Dalot diligently helping him double up.
Diogo Dalot 5
Was careless in possession as Ipswich came flying out the traps but he seemed to settle down after the red card as he switched over to the left-hand side. Managed to restrict Ipswich to very little of quality down his side.
Manuel Ugarte 6
Kept things ticking over in a display where he let the headlines - good and bad - be taken by his team-mates. Plenty in the dressing room believe he is the most underrated player in this team and that may well be the case.
Bruno Fernandes 8.5
Where would Manchester United be without his set pieces? It was Fernandes who started the comeback at Everton and it was similar here with his left-sided free-kick headed into his own net by Sam Morsy. It was Fernandes’ corner that led to the scramble for De Ligt. And it was Fernandes’ corner at the start of the second half that Maguire headed past Palmer.

Club captain Bruno Fernandes is so often a standout for Man United and on Wednesday help spark their victory

Manuel Ugarte and Noussair Mazraoui had a close shave in their feisty clash with Liam Delap
Patrick Dorgu 3
Had a nightmare moment when miscommunication saw him knock the ball past an onrushing Onana, allowing Jaden Philogene the easiest goal he will ever score. His horror evening was capped off with a leg-breaking-type challenge on Omari Hutchinson, who he wanted revenge on following a foul on him by the Ipswich man minutes earlier. Showed his naivety in that moment.
Joshua Zirkzee 6
His turnaround since he was cheered off here as a first half substitute against Newcastle United is really remarkable. Continues to look much more comfortable in one of the No 10 roles where there is a touch less of a goalscoring burden. Still doesn’t affect the game enough in the final third, though.
Was the only Manchester United player who looked capable of carrying them up the pitch and taking a man on before he was taken off following Dorgu’s red card. The fact Amorim didn’t think he could trust the Argentine at left wing-back and instead had to go to Noussair Mazraoui isn’t a great sign given the attacking impetus they lost. He marched straight down the tunnel in frustration.

Rasmus Hojlund's confidence in United's attack appears to have been shattered significantly

Ruben Amorim will have food for thought despite Man United swiping all three points at home
Rasmus Hojlund 4
His confidence appears to have been broken into a million pieces. After a totally anonymous first half the ball at least found him more in the second. His night was summed up when he dummied a cross into the box through his legs… all while no other Manchester United player was in there. Booked.
MANAGER: Ruben Amorim 6.5
Had to watch on like the rest of us when United made a schoolboy error to gift Ipswich Town an early lead. Many were scratching their head at his decision to take off Alejandro Garnacho but he came out with a crucial win and for that he deserves credit.
