The Offaly flag flies proudly

Louth and Offaly will meet in the Leinster minor football championship final on May 19th after coming through their respective semi-finals last night.

Louth were impressive in their 2-17 to 1-8 victory over Dublin in Naul, where Jack Martin’s early goal handed them the perfect start ahead of the Dubs hitting their net through Cillian McCabe in the 20th minute.

The Wee County went on to edge a 1-8 to 1-7 lead at half-time before the second-half saw them adding another goal via Tom Maguire and the points of Connell Kelly and Andrew O’Reilly helped round off a comfortable win for their county’s first Leinster MFC final berth since 2017.

In Tullamore, Offaly also came up with a strong second-half display to defeat Kildare on a 4-9 to 1-16 scoreline.

Cian McNamee struck a brace of goals for the hosts in the opening 20 minutes prior to Pauric Carthy finding the net for the Lilywhites who would lead by 1-10 to 2-4 at the half.

Ruairi Woods smashed in Offaly’s third goal a dozen minutes into the second-half, and with the scoreboard reading 1-13 to 3-7 with just over five minutes remaining, Cian Duffy grabbed the crucial fourth goal for the Faithful lads ahead of a brace of Hugh Martin points being backed up by a Jack Ryan effort from beyond the arc to seal the victory.
