A GAA club in Laois has raised thousands of euro by collecting 70,000 empty cans and bottles at Electric Picnic last weekend.

Killeshin GAA partnered with the concert organisers and Re-turn to hold the collection. Under the Re-turn scheme, every can or bottle with the correct logo or barcode that is donated to the club is worth between 15 and 25c.

“Thank you Electric Picnic and Re-turn for having us at this year’s event. It was a fantastic experience for the club with 70k cans collected. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out over the past three days, you were amazing. See you next year!!” the south Laois club posted online.

Replying to the post, Re-turn said: “A massive thank you back to you and your incredible volunteers! 70,000 cans collected is an amazing achievement. Together, we’re showing the power of community and sustainability at Electric Picnic. Already looking forward to next year!”
