HS Roundup: Keller Mahoney’s six-point day lifts Northampton boys lacrosse over Lenox, 9-4, in season opener

Keller Mahoney matched Lenox’s output by himself Thursday afternoon, as he tallied four goals and added two assists in a dominant showing for the Northampton boys lacrosse team. The Blue Devils used his offensive outburst to cruise past the Millionaires, 9-4, on their home turf and claim a victory in their season opener.
Nick Biddle (two assists), Bryce McGinn-Stevens (one assist), Jackson Oravec (one assist), Jack Carpenter (one assist) and Noah Monteiro (one assist) all scored goals for Northampton. Henry Fallon made six saves in the cage.
Next up for the Blue Devils is a road bout against Chicopee Comp Tuesday.
Westfield 6, South Hadley 5 — The Tigers were on the wrong end of a low-scoring, one-goal contest on Thursday afternoon as they fell 6-5 to the Bombers on the road.
Raquel Losty scored two goals, Ava Asselin (one assist) and Margaret Watkins (two draw controls) tacked on goals while Kelcey Zraunig, Nora Vaughn and Lauren Montemgni dished out assists. Riley Nestor made seven saves for South Hadley.
Palmer 24, Granby 23 — It was a football score between the Panthers and Rams on Thursday afternoon. Granby scored eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to storm from behind and give themselves a chance, but ultimately fell just one run shy.
Katie Grabherr went 3-for-5 (single, 2 doubles) and scored four runs while driving in two runs, Alexis Lapite tallied three singles two RBIs and scored three runs and Mabel Carillon’s single and triple plated a combined three runs for Granby’s offense.
Eight different Rams players recorded a hit, and Granby scored 20 of their 23 runs across the final three innings (seven, five and eight, respectively).
Frontier 12, Pioneer 3 — The Redhawks raced out to a 6-0 lead after three innings to take down the Panthers in an independent contest in Northfield on Thursday.
Greenfield 6, Hopkins 1 — MacKenzie Paulin struck out 21 Golden Hawks batters as she threw a no-hitter to hand Hopkins a second consecutive loss.
Hopkins scored its only run on a passed ball, which brought Maggie Potter – who reached base on a dropped-third strike – home to the plate. Paulin now has 40 strikeouts in just two games this season.
Frontier 4, Greenfield 1 — Redhawk Oliver Brown pulled out a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles in Frontier’s victory in South Deerfield on Thursday.
Xavier Fripp earned a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 3 singles, Noah Nichols and Harrison Manning picked up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph in No. 1 doubles while Liam Wells and Matt Sibley earned a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles for the Redhawks.
Granby 3, Chicopee 2 — The Rams survived their first scare of 2025, as they stormed past Chicopee in the fifth set to earn a thrilling win on Thursday afternoon.
Granby won its first two matches of the season via 3-0 scores, and improved to 3-0 overall thanks to the triumph over the Pacers. Set scores were 19-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 15-6.
Holyoke 3, Commerce 0 — After a pair of 3-2 losses to open the season, the Purple Knights cruised to their first victory of 2025 on Thursday evening.
Holyoke travels to East Longmeadow on Monday.
