Ger Brennan Teases Return Of Ex-Teammates On Dublin Backroom Team

Ger Brennan Teases Return Of Ex-Teammates On Dublin Backroom Team

Dublin GAA confirmed on Friday that Ger Brennan will take charge of the county's senior footballers for 2026.

He replaces Dessie Farrell, who stepped down after six seasons in charge immediately after the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone in June.

Brennan arrives off the back of a historic second season in charge of Louth, which saw the Wee County win their first Leinster senior championship title since 1957.

That triumph made Brennan the first man ever to win the Leinster championship as both a player and manager with different counties, with the St. Vincent's club man boasting many honours from his playing days with Dublin.

Brennan won the All-Ireland in 2011 and 2013 at the beginning of the Dubs' period of dominance, as well as five Leinster championships.

Speaking to DubsTV at his unveiling as manager, Brennan hinted that some members of that iconic Dublin team could join him on the backroom team next season.

Speaking to DubsTV on Friday, Ger Brennan shared his excitement to get started in charge of the Dublin team he enjoyed so much success with as a player.

"As a player myself, something we were always taught by managers and coaches, was try to leave the jersey in a better place," Brennan said.

"That's something I'll be working hard at. To ensure that when my term comes to an end that I've been able to build on the success of my predecessors.

"I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to continue to build and add to the success of my predecessors, a couple of great men who I've been fortunate enough to play under."

Brennan's backroom team is yet to be announced, but he teased that some ex-Dublin teammates could be part of it.

There'll be a nice blend of continuity from Dessie Farrell's set-up. And then I'll integrate a couple of guys I would have played with myself over the years and they're very much looking forward to getting involved.

A hero from his playing days with a trophy-winning pedigree as a manager, Ger Brennan will surely be a popular choice as Dessie Farrell's replacement among Dublin fans.
