GAA to probe scoreboard error in Tipp v Kilkenny hurling semi-final

Tipperary's All-Ireland SHC semi-final victory over Kilkenny has been overshadowed by a scoreboard error.
The GAA released a statement just before 8 o'clock last night clarifying that the correct scoreline was actually Tipperary 4-20 Kilkenny 0-30, and not Tipperary 4-21 Kilkenny 0-30 as what appeared on the Croke Park scoreboard at full-time.
The confusion arose from a Noel McGrath effort at the end of normal time which was waved wide by one of referee James Owens' umpires, but given as a point on the scoreboard, apparently putting Tipp 4-21 to 0-29 ahead at the time. It led Kilkenny to believe they were four points down when in fact they were only three - the margin was further reduced when Jordan Molloy fired over their 30th point. Accordingly, they went for goals in the closing stages which they may not have done if the scoreboard was correct.
“The GAA can confirm that the official score at the end of the Tipperary v Kilkenny GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-Final was 4-20 to 0-30," the statement read.
"The GAA acknowledges there was confusion over the final score.
"The CCCC is awaiting the full referee's report in order to establish how the initial mistake occurred.”
Kilkenny are believed to be considering their options in the wake of the controversy.
