With the Detroit Pistons eliminated, the LA Clippers are now the ones playing to extend their playoff run on Thursday.
First, the Pistons hosted the New York Knicks, but fell 116-113 despite a furious fourth quarter comeback. The Knicks won the series in six games and advance to face the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Jalen Brunson led New York with 40 points, his third 40-point game with a chance to clinch a playoff series with the Knicks, breaking a tie with Bernard King for the most in team history, according to ESPN Research. Brunson hit a 3-pointer with 5.3 seconds left in the game to clinch the victory.
With the series tied at 2-2, Denver defeated LA 131-115 in Game 5 on the same night. It was the Jamal Murray Show for the Nuggets as the guard dropped 43 points with 7 assists and 5 rebounds. It marked his sixth career 40-point playoff game, breaking a tie with Nikola Jokic for the most in Nuggets history.
