Mercedes teenage driver Kimi Antonelli will become the youngest driver in Formula 1 history to start a race on pole position in today's sprint event at the Miami Grand Prix. On a dramatic night of qualifying, the 18-year-old beat McLaren's Oscar Piastri, the championship leader, into first place.

Lando Norris was third while Red Bull's Max Verstappen was fourth. Antonelli's team-mate George Russell was fifth fastest, and it was another disappointing showing for the Ferrari due with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton sixth and seventh respectively.

It was all watched by Verstappen's former Red Bull partner Sergio Perez. His attendance in American has heightened speculation over a return to the grid with New F1 team Cadillac in 2026.
