Dr Crokes storm to 10th Kerry club title

Dr Crokes retained their Kerry club football championship title thanks to a 0-20 to 1-12 victory over Na Gaeil at Austin Stack Park this afternoon.
The Killarney men’s impressive start saw them 0-7 to 0-2 to the good inside the opening dozen minutes, with Tony Brosnan, who finished with 0-8, in fine shooting form early on and a two-pointer from All-Ireland winning captain Gavin White helping to create the five-point margin.
Niall O’Connor pulled back a point for the trailers, but ‘Man of the Match’ Brosnan’s point and another from White beyond the arc stretched the holders’ lead as they’d go on to take in a 0-12 to 0-5 advantage at the break.
Brosnan and Micheál Burns shot early second-half scores to put nine between the teams and the margin would grow into double figures once Cian Mahon sailed over with 10 minutes remaining in Tralee.
Jack Sheehan and Brian Looney traded points after that and Diarmuid O’Connor would grab a consolation goal for Na Gaeil down the home stretch as they finished five short in the end.
The victory marks a record 10th Michael O'Connor Cup success for Crokes, with Castleisland Desmonds next on the roll of honour list with nine titles.
Earlier in the day, Brian Ó Beaglaoich starred with 0-9 as An Ghaeltacht defeated Fossa by 0-19 to 1-11 to claim the Kerry intermediate football championship title and book a return to the senior ranks in the process.
