Double delight for Cahalane sisters

It was a weekend to remember for four members of Cork’s famous Cahalane family.
Sisters Méabh, Órlaith, Gráinne and Kate helped Éire Óg to a 1-12 to 1-8 victory over Aghada in their Cork senior ‘A’ ladies football championship final replay on Saturday before lining out for St Finbarr’s on Sunday as they retained their county senior camogie championship crown by accounting for St Catherine’s on a 0-15 to 0-9 scoreline.
Méabh and Órlaith started both finals, while Gráinne also started the camogie decider. Rising star Kate started both finals on the bench, but came on in the football final.
The sisters’ brothers Damien, Conor and Jack have also won county medals in both codes with Castlehaven and St Finbarr’s, while their father Niall was a teak-tough defender on the Cork team that claimed back-to-back All-Ireland SFC titles in 1989 and ’90.
