Cork hold off late Waterford rally to secure 35th Munster MHC crown
Cork claimed their first Munster minor hurling championship title in four years by edging out Waterford on a 1-20 to 2-15 scoreline at FBD Semple Stadium last night.
Craig O'Sullivan’s late free sealed the Rebels’ 35th provincial crown after Waterford had come with a late push to try and force extra time in Thurles.
The victors held a 0-11 to 0-6 lead at half-way stage, with O’Sullivan, who finished with 0-8, helping them to go in at the break with a comfortable advantage.
Ryan Dineen (2) extended the lead for the Leesiders before Waterford cut their deficit down to four and then hit the net through Cormac Spain late on.
Sam Ring’s goal at the other end cancelled it out moments later, but the Deise would keep the heat on in injury-time through another Spain goal from a free.
However, they couldn’t find an equaliser and O'Sullivan’s free ended up being the insurance for Cork to secure their triumph.
