Ballyea and Clonlara progress to Clare SHC knock-out stages

Ballyea are through to the quarter-finals of the Clare senior hurling championship thanks to a 0-23 to 0-16 win over Cratloe in Sixmilebridge on Saturday.
It was Cratloe that held the upper hand at the halfway stage (0-11 to 0-7), but Ballyea got motoring, especially in the closing quarter, as points from county ace Tony Kelly, Cian Kirby and Niall Deasey propelled them to victory and a place in the last eight.
In Tulla, Clonlara booked their place in the knock-out stages by edging out Crusheen on a 0-22 to 1-18 scoreline.
Minus the services of county man John Conlon, Clonlara were made to hold on for their victory after seeing a six-point advantage halved by Fergus Kennedy’s goal in the 58th minute, with a brace of points from Bryan McLeish proving crucial for the 2023 champions as Crusheen were shown the exit door.
Elsewhere, Kilmaley recorded their third consecutive win by seeing off Scariff (1-31 to 2-18) to move into the quarter, along with Sixmilebridge who defeated St Joseph’s Doora/Barefield by 1-27 to 2-14 to advance to the knockouts.
Meanwhile, holders Feakle are in need of a win over Éire Óg this afternoon (4pm) to keep their hopes of a title defence alive.
