Awesome all-rounder Oran cracking all codes

There are dual stars in the GAA … and then there’s Monaghan’s Oran Kiernan.
The young Carrickmacross man plays not two but four codes to an incredibly high standard and has already won world, All-Ireland and county titles aplenty.
A member of the Monaghan senior hurling squad for the past couple of years, Oran plays senior football and hurling with his home club Carrickmacross Emmets.
He has also excelled in rounders for ten years and counting, winning an All-Ireland senior mens title with Carrick’ in 2023.
But handball is his number one sport and Oran made massive breakthroughs last year, winning the World Mens B Singles Handball Championship final in Wexford in October followed by his breakthrough Monaghan senior county title six weeks later.
“It’s difficult to fit it all in when you play everything but handball is my No.1 focus and always comes first,” he told the official Monaghan GAA Yearbook. “I took a break from the football last year and kept going with the hurling and was able to play for the club and county teams.
“I stayed with the county hurlers for the league in 2025 but had to step away after that since I’m back at the football. Between the four, more or less every day of the week is taken up. The footballers have been very fair to me and they have agreed that if I have a handball match it will come first.”
