Arne Slot insists Liverpool will 'forget about the Premier League' and focus on PSG now after 2-0 Newcastle win puts them 13 points clear of Arsenal

Liverpool moved ever closer to the Premier League title as goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister saw off Newcastle — and Arsenal dropped more points with a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.
The victory puts Arne Slot’s side 13 points clear at the top, and Gunners boss Mikel Arteta now needs a miracle to stop them claiming their first title in five years.
But the Liverpool boss is not one for getting carried away and admitted his focus has already switched to the mouth-watering clash against in-form Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League next Tuesday.
‘I don’t know because I don’t think that way,’ said Slot when asked how close his team is now to winning the league. ‘I am thinking about PSG already and I watched them against Manchester City, I am impressed by the quality they have, they are on a similar run as we are.
‘I will forget about the Premier League until we play Southampton (on March 8).’
Slot’s opposite number Arteta, however, will spend the next few days in pain due to Arsenal’s disappearing title challenge.

Arne Slot says he will not rest on his laurels and turn his attention to the Champions League
The Spaniard insisted they had improved greatly from the home defeat by West Ham last weekend but once more his side failed to step up under pressure.
Though Arteta did not concede the title, his reference to Arsenal’s Champions League campaign felt telling. ‘We have a beautiful competition in front of us and we need to do it against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday,’ said Arteta.
‘We are very disappointed not to win this game but it’s about what we can do now. We showed energy and willingness to make things happen but lacked quality in the final pass and the delivery to win it. We dropped two points again and it’s very painful.’
Liverpool, meanwhile, will now have two days off – a rarity given they have played five times in the last 15 days – and recharge their bodies and minds for the final straight in both the league and Europe.
They also have a Carabao Cup final against last night’s opponents Newcastle. Slot was watching from the stands after serving the first game of a two-match ban for his behaviour after the Merseyside Derby.
He added: ‘Watching it real time (in the stands) is less emotional because you don’t feel the emotions of the players, you have a better overview.
‘The downside is you see replays as well… as you know the reason I was suspended is I can get emotional so the downside is I can see the replays, especially after five minutes (when Liverpool had a penalty turned down)! It was a great team performance.’
