'He's Prime Tipperary': Cult Hero Buggy O'Meara Makes Sensational Club Hurling Return

One of our favourite club GAA comeback stories of 2025 occurred at the weekend as Kilruane McDonagh's cult hero Brian 'Buggy' O'Meara came off the bench in the final minutes of the club's win over Roscrea.

It was a big win for Kilruane as they did it without Tipperary star Craig Morgan for the second half, and it sends them into the knockout portion of the Tipperary senior hurling championship. They'll play Kiladangan in the preliminary quarterfinal round.

Buggy was introduced as a 59th minute sub for Thomas Cleary, and was wearing the #33 jersey.

The 35-year-old made his Tipperary intercounty debut way back in 2010 and hasn't featured for the Kilruane senior side in three years, though he's been hugely involved on the sideline for the senior team for the last number of years.

There was a brilliant moment on Clubber commentary when was introduced as a sub.

Kilruane's corner forward Cian Darcy was Clubber's man of the match and paid a brilliant tribute to Buggy.

He added:

"It's great to have Buggy back. Even is he wasn't playing, or even if we didn't have him as an option to come on, it's great to have the experience there on the sideline.

Our sideline can be a bit hot at time, but he brings that bit of calmness as well. He's an iconic figure among the club, himself and Niall [O'Meara, club captain and Tipp great] are a credit to everyone here but seeing him come on is always great.
