TÜİK objected to the 'basket' case on appeal

According to a report in Cumhuriyet, a new development has emerged in the lawsuit filed by retired Supreme Court of Appeals member Seyfettin Çilesiz against the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) over inflation data. While the TÜİK refused to disclose the basket-price information requested by the court, citing the "principle of confidentiality," the court deemed the official inflation figures "lawful," claiming that the data integrity required for auditing could not be ensured. Çilesiz appealed.
TÜİK also filed an appeal on July 15 to challenge the court's "merits review." TÜİK claims the court should have dismissed the cases outright without reviewing them.
The lawyer representing the case, Ali Erdem Gündoğan, said, "The claim that a lawsuit cannot be filed against TÜİK is incompatible with a state governed by the rule of law. TÜİK is avoiding accountability. Let's continue the fight."
