Unprecedented security measures were taken for the Galatasaray-Fenerbahçe derby. Istanbul Police Department officials held four separate security meetings for the big match. 33,000 police officers were assigned to the match. The measures were followed step by step days in advance. Police department directors were also present at Rams Park. The routes used by the two teams and their fans were subject to strict control, with possible incidents calculated in advance.
RISK IN SUBWAYS PREVENTED Police took their positions at transportation points, especially in subways. Police officers affiliated with the police departments of 39 districts were written to work. Istanbul Police Sports Security Branch Directorate, Riot Police Branch Directorate and Traffic Control Branch Directorate Police officers worked in a coordinated manner.
TORCHES WERE THROWN, THE GAME WAS STOPPED 2,400 Fenerbahçe fans were brought to the stadium by the Sports Security Department Police and took their place in Rams Park. SELAMİ YILDIZ WAS FOLLOWING UP Istanbul Provincial Police Chief Selami Yıldız was at the stadium yesterday to follow up and manage the security measures taken for the big match. Yıldız, who went down to the field and made inspections before the match, also watched the camera footage from the police monitoring room. Yıldız also looked at the locker room corridors in detail. He was also in contact with the officials.
LEGAL ACTIONS WERE TAKEN AGAINST 71 PEOPLE! In addition to those who watched the match in the stands to support their teams, there were also many who did not comply with the rules. While 10,030 police officers were on duty at Rams Park Stadium, some of the 52,152 fans who entered tried to bring foreign objects inside. Security forces took legal action against 8 people for lighting torches, 5 people for bringing torches into the stands, 5 fans for throwing nepotism onto the field, and 53 people for "violating Law No. 6222", totaling 71 people. The derby day ended without any problems.
