According to news in the British media, Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of INEOS, which bought a 25 percent stake in Manchester United for 1.25 billion pounds, announced that the staff canteen at Old Trafford Stadium will be closed and only fruit will be served to employees as a result of the expansion of austerity measures.
The staff canteen at Old Trafford, which offers free hot meals and tea and coffee to employees and is open from 11.30am to 1.30pm, is expected to close at the weekend.
It was announced that the free lunch service at the team's training facilities will be offered only to football players, while other employees will only be provided with soup and sandwiches.
It was announced on February 12 that the club planned to cut 200 jobs after making losses of more than £300 million in the last three years. The news recalled that Manchester United laid off 250 staff last autumn.
