The International Olympic Committee has not yet made a final decision regarding a possible ban on transgender* athletes (the LGBT movement is banned in Russia as extremist) competing in women's events at the Olympic Games. The organization's press service told RIA Novosti that previously circulated reports of such a ban are untrue.

Currently, international sports federations are granted the right to independently determine the eligibility criteria for transgender* athletes to participate in the Games. At the recent weekly meetings of the IOC commissions, the Director of the Department of Health, Medicine, and Science provided members with an update on this issue. The working group continues its comprehensive discussion of this issue, and final decisions will be made public in accordance with the established regulations.

In February 2025, US President Donald Trump declared that transgender* athletes would not be allowed to participate in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. On February 6, he signed a bill banning transgender athletes from participating in women's sports at academic institutions in the United States.
