See how much Palmeiras earned in prize money at the World Cup

Eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, Palmeiras ended its participation in the international tournament with a significant financial income. The 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, in a match played on Friday (July 4), in Philadelphia, marked the end of the club's campaign, but did not prevent the club from returning to Brazil with considerable amounts in prize money.

Verdão's campaign secured a total of 39.82 million dollars, an amount equivalent to approximately R$216.8 million, considering the exchange rate on the day of the game. This amount includes not only participation in the competition, but also bonuses for the phases overcome and the results achieved in the group stage.

The division of the amounts includes R$83.6 million for the initial participation, in addition to performance bonuses: R$5.4 million for the draw against Porto, R$10.8 million for the victory over Al Ahly and another R$5.4 million for the draw with Inter Miami. In the knockout stage, the club received R$40.6 million for the place in the round of 16 and R$71 million for reaching the quarterfinals.

In fact, the match against the English team could have yielded an extra R$113 million if Palmeiras had secured qualification for the semi-finals. The defeat, therefore, not only interrupted the sporting planning, but also ended the chance to increase the financial gain.

Meanwhile, off the field, the club's board of directors sought alternatives to minimize the high tax burden in the United States. As revealed, Palmeiras discussed with Botafogo , Flamengo and Fluminense the possibility of creating a company on American soil, but the group opted to adhere to the ECI (Effectively Connected Income) tax regime, which simulates the tax conditions of local companies and reduces the charges on the prize money received.

In the decisive game, the goals were scored by Cole Palmer and an own goal by Weverton, while Estêvão scored for Verdão. The match, played at 10 pm (Brasília time), had moments of Palmeiras dominance, but Chelsea was more efficient and secured a spot to face Fluminense in the next phase.

Finally, although the elimination frustrated part of the fans, the performance guaranteed the club not only sporting recognition, but also significant financial compensation.
