Goiás confirms coach Fábio Carille to replace Vagner Mancini

Goiás confirms coach Fábio Carille to replace Vagner Mancini

Even with Goiás in the top four (the promotion group) of the Brazilian Championship's Série B, the board decided to make changes to the coaching staff. In the afternoon, they announced the departure of Vagner Mancini and in the evening, they confirmed the agreement with Fábio Carille, last year's Série B champion with Santos.

Having played for some of Brazil's most prestigious clubs, Carille boasts significant achievements, including the 2017 Brazilian Championship title and three São Paulo State Championships with Corinthians. This year, he played for Vasco and then Vitória, both in Série A.

With just six games remaining, the Goiás club is looking to bounce back and secure promotion to the 2026 Série A, its main objective of the season. Currently in fourth place with 52 points, it could lose its place to Chapecoense, which has 50 points and which concludes the 32nd round at home against Botafogo-SP on Tuesday.

With the new coach, Goiás focuses on the 33rd round of Série B, when they will face Chapecoense next Sunday (19), at 8:30 pm, at the Hailé Pinheiro stadium, in Goiânia (GO).

Vagner Mancini ended his second stint at Goiás with a 53.53% success rate. Since the start of the season, the coach has led the team in 33 matches, recording 14 wins, 11 draws, and 8 losses. Under his leadership, Goiás finished runner-up in the Copa Verde, losing the final to Paysandu at the Serra Dourada stadium.

The change also affected the football management. Director Lucas Andrino was fired over the weekend. The overhaul comes amid internal and external pressure for better results in the fight to return to Serie A.
