Ceni criticizes Bahia's stance in the draw with Fluminense: 'There was some arrogance'

With a 3-3 draw against Fluminense , Bahia reached its seven-game unbeaten streak in the Brasileirão. However, the team managed to turn the game around in the first half, but due to inattention, the opponent found the net twice more. In the final stretch, Luciano Juba leveled the score. Coach Rogério Ceni criticized the team's performance, especially when they were ahead.
"Today was a game to win no matter what. We had to win, and we didn't. We started distracted, reacted well, turned the game around, and then we showed some arrogance. We failed to kill the game. We played the right way, but we weren't objective. I think Fluminense created too little to score three goals against us. And I think we created too much to only score three goals. But then the ball goes in, that's how football is," he lamented.
The manager came to the defense of goalkeeper Ronaldo, who made a mistake on the Tricolor de Laranjeiras' third goal, scored by Nonato. Ceni believes his players always try to do their best, and he understands the jeers, but trust is essential, especially for the goalkeepers.
"As for naming names, I won't do that. I don't think it's fair to do so at this time. I won't talk about that. We're looking for reinforcements in more than one position. That's all I can say. I didn't get to see the third goal exactly from my angle, but they're always trying to do their best. It's a difficult position to live in amidst boos from the fans. Confidence is fundamental in that position. I regret that this happens," he analyzed.
"They'll have to overcome the mental and psychological challenges. When the opposing fans boo you, it's okay. When your own fans boo, it takes mental strength. I know they have the ability to perform the role; they have the tactical and technical skills, the information, and the ability to execute. But they'll need, with the trust of everyone within the club, to overcome this negative moment," he concluded.
