CBF presidential election will take place on the eve of Ancelotti's arrival

Interventor of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Fernando José Sarney announced this Friday (16) the date of the new election of the entity . One day after being appointed to the position, he defined that the election will be held on the 25th of this month, the day before the beginning of coach Carlo Ancelotti's work in charge of the Brazilian team.

The election will determine the successor to Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was removed from the leadership of the CBF on Thursday by a decision of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJ-RJ), appointed by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) to investigate possible fraud in the agreement that kept the leader in power. An expert analysis indicated that the signature of former vice president Coronel Nunes, one of the signatories, was false. The decision is subject to appeal.

In his ruling, Judge Gabriel de Oliveira Zéfiro defined Fernando José Sarney, vice-president of the CBF, as the intervenor and determined that he should call an election for the CBF's management positions "as soon as possible".

Following these determinations, Sarney announced that the Notice of Call for the General Electoral Assembly will be published in newspapers this Saturday. The election will decide who will be the new president of the entity and will also define eight vice-presidents, three effective members and three alternate members of the Fiscal Council, to exercise the mandates of the four-year period 2025/2029 .

"In compliance with the electoral rules and procedures set out in the CBF Statute, the process will be conducted in a transparent, democratic and participatory manner", stated the interventor of the entity that governs world football.

According to the schedule provided by Sarney, the deadline for registering candidates will open on Sunday, the 18th , and will close on the 20th . And on the 25th, the General Electoral Assembly will take place to hold the election. "I also inform that the conduct of the electoral process will be the responsibility of a Separate and Independent Electoral Commission, as provided for in art. 22, VI, of Law No. 9.615/98", informed Sarney, in a statement.

It will be the second election in less than two months . In March, Ednaldo won a resounding victory to remain in office, with all the votes from the federations and clubs in Series A and B of the Brazilian Championship. He would start the new term in 2026. However, he is now appealing to the Supreme Court to try to reverse Thursday's court decision.

The election will therefore take place on the eve of Ancelotti's first day in charge of the national team . On the 26th, he will hold a press conference to announce his first list of players called up for the games against Ecuador, away from home, on June 5, and against Paraguay, on the 10th, at the Neo Química Arena, in São Paulo.
