The decision has been made! The coach of the Polish national team has been fired

We have learned about Marcin Lijewski's future. The 47-year-old will not remain the coach of the Polish national handball team. This information was provided by the Polish Handball Association on Tuesday.
Marcin Lijewski has been the national team coach since March 29, 2023, when he replaced Patryk Rombel in this role. In total, he led the team in 28 matches, and his balance as a coach was 15 wins, 10 losses and three draws.

The most excitement in connection with the 47-year-old's work in the national team was brought by this year's world championship. The White and Reds took last place in their group, losing to Germany and Switzerland, and shared points in the clash with the Czech Republic. "As a consolation prize" they reached for the IHF President's Cup, defeating the United States in the final on penalties.
During the event, there was also a lot of talk about the atmosphere around the team. Kamil Syprzak left the training camp prematurely during the tournament . Lijewski, on the other hand, emphasized that the pivot is an "exceptional player" and "certain issues need to be explained".
Even before the world championship, the 47-year-old led the team to victory in the 4 Nations Cup 2025 in Płock. The Poles triumphed over Austria, Japan and Tunisia, reaching for the cup with a full set of points.
On Tuesday, news regarding the future of the Polish handball coach was released. The Polish Handball Association announced that it had ended its cooperation with the coach. It is not yet known who will permanently take over the reins of the national team. However, we have learned that Michał Skórski will lead the team in the upcoming matches.
For Lijewski, the Polish national team was the third challenge in his coaching career. He had previously worked for Wybrzeże Gdańsk and Górnik Zabrze. He had enjoyed greater successes as an active player. The former right-back is a silver and bronze medalist at the World Championships. In his club career, he achieved, among other things, the final triumph in the Champions League with HSV Hamburg, was a three-time Polish champion (twice with Wybrzeże Gdańsk and once with Wisła Płock) and won the German league twice, playing for Flensburg-Handewitt and HSV Hamburg.
