Racist scandal in the football Ekstraklasa. "Monkey sounds"

Racist scandal in the football Ekstraklasa. "Monkey sounds"

It is possible that Jagiellonia Białystok's victory in Częstochowa will be crucial in the context of the fight for the Polish championship. "Jaga" is indeed six points behind the leader Raków Częstochowa, but the runner-up - Lech Poznań - after the defeat of the "Medalics" can overtake the Częstochowa rival, if it wins Sunday's match with Legia in Warsaw.

Racist scandal in Częstochowa. Afimico Pululu speaks out

Unfortunately, the events on the pitch in Saturday's hit at Jasna Góra faded into the background. Raków lost 1:2, and Afimico Pululu scored two goals for the visitors. In both cases, they were penalties. Regardless of the emotions, and the stakes of the match were really high, there was also no shortage of refereeing controversies, shocking recordings quickly circulated on social media. On them, you can hear racist behavior from fans at the Częstochowa stadium, towards Pululu, who was celebrating a goal.

How did the Jagiellonia striker see the situation? The footballer confirmed that there was indeed a scandal with a racist background. What's more, as it turned out, the incident from the match with Raków was not the only one of its kind recently.

– In this match I heard some of these shouts even before I took the penalty. At that moment I didn't pay attention to them. In the sense that I thought they wanted to throw me off balance, destabilize me, before the kick. Of course, I consider it very bad. And after scoring the goal I made a gesture of celebration to show them that I heard these shouts. That maybe they thought I didn't hear, but I did. After scoring the goal these sounds were even stronger [...] it wasn't the first time. The first time was during the warm-up before the Polish Cup match with Legia. I remember that they made some gestures and monkey sounds in my direction. But I didn't react then. Then this type of incident took place in the match with Widzew. I didn't say anything then either, and now it happened for the third time. It's sad, but that's life – admitted the Jagiellonia striker in an interview with Piotr Koźmiński from Goal.pl.

Rafał Rudnicki, the vice-president of Białystok, also wrote about the scandal on the X portal. He called out the Częstochowa club directly to the board for a reaction to what happened during Saturday's match.

Twitter

"I can't believe that Raków Częstochowa, a club that wants to play in European cups, won't address the racist behaviour of its fans in the match against Jagiellonia Białystok and won't condemn them... Otherwise, such a club shouldn't represent us in Europe," Rudnicki said.

Regardless of the place and time, this type of behavior is simply reprehensible. Even if there are any doubts (?) related to the recording and its quality, circulating on social media, the confirmation of the fact of the attack by the victim of racist behavior - clearly indicates that a scandal has occurred. And appropriate consequences should be drawn against the perpetrator or perpetrators.
