New Wisła Płock is setting out to conquer. They'll face Raków next.
Before the match, the captain of the "Nafciarze" Łukasz Sekulski told PAP that he was happy to be nominated to the team of the best players of the first round, but the most important thing was for the Płock team to score points.
Wisła has spent the last two seasons in the first division. Before their relegation in May 2023, it was Raków, among others, who sealed Płock's relegation to the bottom of the Ekstraklasa. In the penultimate round, coach Marek Papszun's side, who had already secured the Polish championship title, defeated the "Nafciarze" 2-1. Sekulski scored the only goal for Wisła.
In July 2025, a completely different team was in Płock, with a new coach but the same captain. In the first round match, a 2-0 victory over Korona Kielce, Sekulski scored both goals. For this, and for his performance throughout the match, he was named to the best eleven of the first round.
"It's an honor to be included in such a group, but the most important thing for me is that our team earns points. If I can also help the team by scoring goals, so much the better. I definitely don't intend to stop now; the season has only just begun," explains Łukasz Sekulski.
The captain of the Płock team reveals that before the match against Korona he hoped for a successful opening.
"It's natural that each of us hoped for a successful opening, but we also knew it would be a difficult match. We focused on executing our plan, and I'm glad it paid off. It's obvious that dreams of a perfect start creep into our minds, and this time we realized it on the pitch," he told PAP.
Over 10,000 fans were in attendance at the ORLEN Stadium for the match against Korona. After the match, no Wisła supporters were disappointed.
"From the start, we wanted to show that we were ready for the top league and that we weren't going to hold back. We were pleased with the turnout and the atmosphere – it was a huge motivator. The fans saw our ambition and character," assured the Płock team captain.
Coach Mariusz Misiura, in his post-match press conference, said the team's goal was to secure their first win in the top flight. He also announced that their next goal was to win an eleven-on-eleven match, likely including their first away match.
"Exactly. We have our own internal goals and we want to achieve them step by step. It's clear that the first away match is another test, but we approach it with humility and confidence in our own abilities," Sekulski said.
The Płock team now faces a difficult match against Raków in Częstochowa.
"We respect every opponent, and Raków is a team with great experience and quality. But we're not going there with defense in mind. We want to play our game and show that we can compete with anyone. It will undoubtedly be a demanding match," added the "Nafciarze" captain.
And he explained why the team felt respect for their rival and what they expected.
"We're definitely expecting high intensity and good organization. This is a team that knows what they want and can control the match. But we also have our strengths, and if we play wisely, focused from the first to the last minute, we can spring a surprise," he announced.
The second round match of the 2025/26 season between Raków Częstochowa and Wisła Płock is scheduled for Sunday, with a start at 2:45 p.m. (PAP)
