Mia Hamant, 21, has died after battling a serious illness.
Hamant was one of the most talented players on the Washington Huskies' varsity team. However, in April of this year, she received a life-changing diagnosis: stage four kidney cancer. Despite the difficult situation, she persevered and remained an inspiration to her teammates.

"It is with profound sadness that Cal North mourns the passing of Mia Hamant. Mia played in our ODP program from 2016-2021 and was a valued member of our soccer family. Mia's spirit—her joy, determination, and kindness—left an indelible mark on our organization and in the hearts of all who knew her. Mia demonstrated true leadership both on and off the field. She courageously took on every challenge, encouraged her teammates, and embodied the values we strive to instill in all our players. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mia's parents, Candice and Kevin, her family, teammates, coaches, and friends as they struggle with this heartbreaking loss," the statement read.
Mia Hamant played a key role in the Washington Huskies' success. Her skills propelled the team to the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament. According to ESPN, Hamant boasts the third-lowest single-season turnover rate in college football program history. Her on-court presence was praised by coaches and teammates, and her athletic career showed promise.
