It's over! The Wimbledon finalist has said goodbye to tennis.

Eugenie Bouchard has retired. The Canadian's farewell was the WTA tournament in Montreal, where she reached the second round. The 2014 Wimbledon finalist lost to Belinda Bencic after a close match, duly bidding farewell to professional tennis.

In mid-July, Eugenie Bouchard announced that the WTA 1000 event in Montreal would be her final career appearance. The Canadian received a wildcard into the main draw from the organizers.

In her home finals, Bouchard put in a strong performance. She secured a victory over Colombian Emiliana Arango in the first round , but a tougher challenge awaited her in the round of 32, as she faced Belinda Bencic.

The Canadian, however, didn't give up. She set the bar high for the Swiss and even managed to take a set against a much higher-ranked opponent. She ultimately lost 2-6, 6-3, 4-6, but said goodbye to tennis in style.

Bouchard was considered a great talent. Rightly so. In 2014 – at just 20 years old – she reached the Wimbledon final. That same season, she also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and Roland Garros. She also won the WTA International Series title in Nuremberg. Her highest ranking was fifth in the world.

However, the Canadian's development was significantly hampered by injuries. In the following years, she struggled to play regularly and return to top form. Now, she has decided to retire.
